Violence during evictions in Peru
Overview
Incidents of violence and fire have been reported during eviction and demolition operations in different Peruvian cities.
In Huancayo, nine municipal workers sustained burns to their faces and bodies during an operation to remove irregular constructions in the Salcedo neighborhood. Officials stated that an individual allegedly threw fuel from a residence and ignited it, creating a fireball that struck staff. One suspect, identified as Grey Albert Enrique Escalante, has reportedly been detained. The municipality and the Public Prosecutor's Office are initiating legal actions.
