Violent crime and homicide investigations in Brazil

Overview

Reports from early September 2026 indicate various violent crimes and homicide investigations across several Brazilian states.

In Piauí, authorities investigated the double homicide of radio host Gilberto Veras, while in Acre, a death is being treated as a possible feminicide involving a convicted murderer. Other incidents included the execution of a truck driver in Paraná and the death of a police captain in Teresina.

In Salvador, Bahia, investigations into a fatal robbery involving 21-year-old law student Brenda Nicole Alves Brandão have progressed. The victim was shot in the face in the Imbuí neighborhood after refusing to hand over her cellphone. The suspect, Ricardo Neri Melo Junior, surrendered to police and confessed to acting alone.

In Mato Grosso, investigations continue into multiple incidents of feminicide. In Feliz Natal, Carlo Alves Soares was arrested for the fatal stabbing of Mirela dos Santos Qaluzny following an argument.

In Artur Nogueira, Anderson Sousa Andrade Ramos died during a shootout with Municipal Guards while hiding in a chicken coop; he was the primary suspect in the femicide of his ex-partner, Talita Ramos Andrade, who had obtained protective orders against him. Additionally, in Porto Ferreira, the stabbing death of gospel singer Luiz Carlos following a pre-arranged meeting is under investigation.

Other recent incidents include the death of a 7-year-old boy in Cidade Tiradentes, São Paulo, which family members suspect may have resulted from an attempt to replicate an online internet challenge. In Maceió, the Public Ministry is investigating the death of Amanda Ruanne Lopes da Silva, who was shot by a military police officer during an intervention, amid conflicting accounts between the family and official reports.
