In early September 2026, a violent attack in the Jardines neighborhood of Campeche resulted in the death of a man known as ‘Ixquilli’. According to the Undersecretary of Police Operation, Alejandro Josafat García Villalpando, the victim sustained wounds from a bladed weapon after unidentified attackers on motorcycles entered his residence and reportedly tied up his family. Later in the month, authorities in Campeche opened an investigation into a shooting in the Colonia Minas neighborhood involving the Secretaría de Protección y Seguridad Ciudadana (SPSC). During a security intervention, a civilian identified as Juan “M” was critically wounded. While the SPSC confirmed an injury occurred during the operation, the victim’s family alleges the shooting was a “deliberate and unprovoked attack” by a police officer. The Fiscalía General del Estado de Campeche (FGECAM) is investigating the incident to determine legal responsibility. In a subsequent report, authorities noted a separate incident in El Tajonal where a Colombian national was wounded by gunfire.
