Recent reports indicate separate violent incidents in Chile and Argentina. In La Unión, Chile, a man was left in critical condition after being intercepted and shot in the head and an extremity during the early hours of a Saturday. The PDI is investigating the event as an attempted homicide. In Resistencia, Argentina, a shooting occurred at a sports facility during a football match when motorcyclists reportedly opened fire, wounding a 37-year-old man. A facility manager was detained following the incident, and police recovered a revolver and a homemade shotgun at the scene. Subsequent reports clarify that the 56-year-old groundskeeper detained claimed he acted in self-defense. Broader reports of criminal activity have since emerged across the region. In Argentina, additional violence includes a shooting in Rawson that injured an 8-year-old boy and resulted in the seizure of an arsenal, as well as various arrests for assault, theft, and bribery. In Uruguay, reports include a violent traffic dispute in Pocitos that left an oncology patient unconscious and a brawl in Montevideo’s Unión neighborhood. In Ecuador, police apprehended a 45-year-old man for the alleged murder of a 66-year-old man in the Quijos canton. In Paraguay, a woman was arrested in Asunción for the attempted murder of her partner after stabbing him in the neck; the victim is reported to be in stable condition.
