Virginia Tech college football season

Overview

Virginia Tech has secured consecutive victories to improve their season record. The Hokies first defeated Georgia Tech 34-24 at Lane Stadium, ending a two-game losing streak. This win was driven by quarterback Ethan Grunkemeyer, who threw for 250 yards and three touchdowns, and wide receiver Que’Sean Brown, who recorded 182 receiving yards and 251 all-purpose yards. The Hokies established an early 24-3 halftime lead, though Georgia Tech attempted a second-half comeback.

Following that performance, Virginia Tech defeated Clemson 20-16 at Memorial Stadium, snapping a 19-year losing streak against the Tigers and securing its first bowl eligibility since 2017. This victory marked the team’s first win at Death Valley since 2007. Trailing 16-13 late in the fourth quarter, the Hokies opted to go for it on fourth-and-1, allowing Grunkemeyer to connect with tight end Luke Reynolds for the decisive touchdown.

Following the loss, Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney stated the defeat “will leave a scar” due to the team's failure to capitalize on opportunities. The win moved Virginia Tech to a 6-2 record.
