VOC Port terminal development and management

Overview

Developments at the VO Chidambaranar (VOC) Port in Tamil Nadu involve both the expansion of terminal capacity and the resolution of ownership structures.

In one project, several major companies including DP World, JSW Infrastructure, Essar Ports, and Vedanta Group have submitted bids to develop a new container terminal at Berth No. 7 under a public-private partnership model. This expansion, estimated at ₹517.19 crore, aims to support projected increases in container traffic through 2030.

Simultaneously, Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) has secured Union government clearance to take full ownership and management of the Dakshin Bharat Gateway Terminal (DBGT) at the port. This follows a three-year delay related to MSC’s acquisition of Bolloré Africa Logistics. The approval also concludes a legal dispute regarding revenue-sharing, with MSC withdrawing its request to reduce its share and maintaining its original commitment.
