Volkswagen-related entities in China have initiated pre-sales for new electric sedan models targeting different market segments. Volkswagen Anhui, a joint venture with JAC, opened pre-sales for the ID. UNYX 09, a smart electric sports sedan developed in partnership with Xpeng. Positioned in the B-segment, the vehicle features a CATL lithium iron phosphate battery and Xpeng’s Turing AI assisted-driving chip. Prices for the model range from 199,900 yuan to 249,900 yuan. Simultaneously, the Jetta brand, part of the FAW-Volkswagen joint venture, launched pre-sales for the M6, its first fully battery-electric vehicle. Aiming for the entry-level segment with prices between 80,800 and 99,800 yuan, the M6 utilizes the Jiesi architecture and CALB batteries. It incorporates a Horizon Robotics chip to support navigation on autopilot functions. The M6 is offered in three variants—the 465 Pro, 555 Max, and 555 Ultra—with names corresponding to CLTC driving ranges of 465 km and 555 km. The sedan utilizes a single-motor, front-wheel-drive layout and a vision-only system supported by the Horizon Robotics Journey 6M chip. Analysts suggest the M6’s competitive pricing is a result of China’s integrated local supply chain for components and lower manufacturing costs relative to European markets.
