Volkswagen ID. Aura T6 market launch and testing future China expansion

Volkswagen has expanded its electric vehicle presence in China with the launch of the ID. Aura T6, a mid-sized electric SUV developed on the CEA platform in collaboration with Xpeng. The model is intended to compete with manufacturers such as BYD, Geely, and Toyota. Following the launch, the FAW-Volkswagen joint venture conducted extreme durability testing on the ID. Aura T6. The vehicle was subjected to intense heat of approximately 160 degrees Celsius and mechanical stress within a rotating drum. While the test caused exterior deformation and broken windows, the passenger compartment remained intact and the high-voltage battery showed no signs of smoke, flames, or leakage. The vehicle remained capable of moving under its own electric power after the procedure. Expanding its roadmap, Volkswagen and FAW are preparing to launch the ID. Aura L5, an all-electric mid-size sedan, in the Chinese market by 2027. Built on the Compact Main Platform (CMP), the L5 is expected to feature a fastback silhouette and various performance configurations, including a rear-wheel-drive version with 155 kW and an all-wheel-drive variant producing 310 kW. This launch aligns with Volkswagen’s broader strategy to introduce over 30 new models in China by the end of 2027, with 20 of those being new energy vehicles.
