Volvo Group and Volvo Cars are advancing autonomous technology across different sectors. Volvo Group is establishing ‘Volvo Mining’, a specialized business unit scheduled to become operational on January 1, 2027. Hosted within Volvo Construction Equipment, the division will integrate trucks, construction equipment, and autonomous solutions to provide end-to-end services. Led by Per-Erik Lindström, the unit will initially focus on Sweden, Norway, and Finland before a planned global expansion. In the freight sector, Volvo Group has begun autonomous operations in Texas through a partnership with Waabi, utilizing Volvo Autonomous Solutions technology to transport cargo between Dallas and Houston. In the passenger vehicle sector, Volvo Cars is expanding its decade-long partnership with NVIDIA to integrate AI and accelerated computing into future models. This collaboration aims to support ‘eyes-off’ and ‘mind-off’ levels of automated driving, enabling vehicles to navigate complex environments such as urban traffic, highways, and parking scenarios on a ‘door-to-door’ basis. The integration will utilize NVIDIA’s Hyperion sensor and computer architecture, the Halos operating system, and the Alpamayo Stack driving software. This technology is expected to debut in a next-generation Volvo model as part of a major product expansion. As At the partnership deepens, GTC Berlin conference, NVIDIA announced an expansion of its autonomous driving ecosystem. Volvo Cars continues is deepening its partnership to adopt combine its safety engineering with the NVIDIA Hyperion platform to facilitate the gradual introduction of these capabilities in future electric platform, Halos OS, and Alpamayo Stack for next-generation vehicles. Other This development occurs alongside other European mobility leaders, such as Mercedes-Benz and Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, and Einride, who are also utilizing the Hyperion platform to demonstrate level Level 3 and level Level 4 autonomous mobility use cases.
