The City of Várzea Grande is implementing artesian wells in municipal schools to improve water security. As part of the ‘Aliança pela Água’ Conduct Adjustment Agreement (TAC), the latest project involves installing a well at the EMEB Maria Joana da Silva school in the Unipark region. This initiative, involving the municipal and state governments alongside the Department of Water and Sewage (DAE-VG), aims to support both the school and the surrounding community. The school is currently undergoing renovations and expansion, with a target completion date of January 2027. Once the facility is finished, it will be equipped to provide full-time education. According to Maria Fernanda Figueiredo, the municipal Secretary of Education, the well installation will not incur costs to the school, as maintenance will be managed by the DAE-VG. Currently, over 50 municipal schools in the area rely on water trucks for their daily supply. As of late September 2026, the municipal administration is working to connect newly drilled wells to the electrical grid to further expand the water supply. This effort is part of a broader suite of infrastructure and public service projects being advanced by Mayor Flávia Moretti.
