The second edition of the WAFU Zone B U17 Girls Cup in Yamoussoukro, Côte d'Ivoire, concluded with Nigeria’s Flamingos securing the championship. Nigeria maintained a perfect record throughout the tournament, winning all five of their matches. After their initial victories against Niger (5-0), Ghana (4-2), Burkina Faso (2-0), and Côte d’Ivoire (2-0), Nigeria faced Togo in the final. The Flamingos secured a 4-0 victory to claim the title. Captain Harmony Chidi scored twice from the penalty spot in the first half, followed by a 67th-minute goal from Oluebube Umejiaku and a final goal from Oluwakemi Adegbuyi in the 90th minute. Over the course of the campaign, Nigeria scored a total of 17 goals and conceded only two. Individual honors were awarded to Nigerian players, with Oluwakemi Adegbuyi named Best Player of the Tournament and Onyinyechi Opara receiving the Best Goalkeeper award. For Ghana, the tournament served as vital preparation for the upcoming FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco, following their competitive showings against Nigeria and victories over Burkina Faso and Togo. Ghana finished the tournament in second place after a 4-0 win over the hosts in their final match. The Nigerian team will now shift their focus toward preparing for the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco, where they have been placed in Group B alongside North Korea, Poland, and Puerto Rico.
