Waitrose retail expansion programme

Overview

Waitrose & Partners has commenced a £1 billion multi-year investment programme focused on expanding its physical estate and enhancing online and wholesale operations. The initiative includes the opening of a new 1,670-square-meter supermarket in Cricklewood, North London, which represents the retailer’s first full-line supermarket opening in eight years. This new location utilizes a ‘Home of Food Lovers’ concept, featuring specialized counters for sushi, meat, fish, and cheese.

Following the London opening, the retailer plans to open a supermarket in Hale Barns, Greater Manchester, in November. Further expansion is scheduled for 2027 with planned openings in Bedminster, Chalk Farm, Oakham, and Springstead Village. As part of the current year's activities, Waitrose intends to refurbish approximately 29 to 30 existing stores. To support seasonal demand, parent company John Lewis Partnership has announced the creation of 10,000 seasonal jobs, with 6,000 roles allocated to Waitrose.
