The Warsaw Stock Exchange (GPW) is undergoing technical and accessibility developments. The exchange is preparing to launch the Warsaw Automated Trading System (WATS) on October 5, 2026, which will replace the existing UTP system. To manage the transition, GPW has planned a migration over the weekend of October 3–4 and established contingency measures, including the potential to revert to the old system or suspend trading for up to a week if necessary. In tandem with these infrastructure changes, market access is expanding. The trading platform Freedom24 has added selected stocks and ETFs from the Warsaw Stock Exchange to its service, allowing investors to trade Polish securities in PLN alongside international assets. This update enables clients to manage Polish instruments within a single account and offers Polish users the ability to fund accounts using BLIK without additional commissions. On October 5, 2026, the GPW successfully implemented the WATS system, retiring the UTP system after more than 13 years of operation. The initial four trading sessions proceeded without unplanned interruptions, processing 1.02 million transactions and a turnover of 9.4 billion PLN. To commemorate the transition and the exchange’s 35th anniversary, a new stock exchange bell featuring a WIG index chart design was introduced. GPW President Tomasz Bardziłowski characterized the upgrade as the start of a ‘new era of innovation’ that provides increased speed and higher order throughput.
