In late July 2026, President Donald Trump announced a $22–$22.5 billion redesign of Washington Dulles International Airport, describing the current layout as “one of the worst airports anywhere in the world” and “a real mess.” The overhaul aims to add roughly five million square feet of space, including four new concourses, a fifth terminal, and a new Concourse E. A central feature is the replacement of the aging mobile-lounge people-movers with an underground, U-shaped Aerotrain system. The project includes a 15-story, 32,000-space parking garage adjacent to the main terminal, which could potentially become the largest garage in the ~~world.
