Washington Wizards 2026 offseason roster changes

During the 2026 NBA offseason, the Washington Wizards transitioned from identifying veteran targets to completing several major roster transactions.

Initially, the Wizards identified former All-Star DeMar DeRozan as a priority target to provide stability to their young roster following his release by the Sacramento Kings. At that stage, the team was competing with the Miami Heat and Denver Nuggets for his services.

By late August, the Wizards finalized significant roster changes. These included re-signing Trae Young to a four-year contract worth approximately $212.8 million and acquiring Chris Middleton via a sign-and-trade from the Mavericks. The team also secured AJ Dybants with the No. 1 overall pick on a four-year rookie scale contract.

Further adjustments to the roster included acquiring Daniel Ayton from the Lakers and securing various second-round draft assets. Additionally, the Wizards bolstered their backcourt depth by acquiring Tre Mann from the Cleveland Cavaliers in exchange for Cam Whitmore and Julian Reese, a deal that also involved a 2027 second-round pick from the Los Angeles Clippers.
