Waste management services in the province of Agrigento and Ragusa, Sicily, have faced significant disruptions due to facility issues. Initially, the temporary closure of waste disposal facilities until August 24 necessitated a reorganization of resources in Ravanusa. The local provider, RAR, attempted to maintain the collection schedules for paper, cardboard, and plastic to mitigate the impact of these closures. Following the scheduled reopening, a technical malfunction at the TMB plant in Ragusa caused further service interruptions across multiple municipalities, including Vittoria, Marina di Ragusa, Acate, Monterosso, and Ragusa. This malfunction forced local authorities to revise collection calendars, resulting in the suspension of certain services such as paper, cardboard, and plastic collection. The impact of the TMB plant malfunction has extended to other municipalities, including Scicli and Pozzallo.
