Recent incidents in Limassol, Cyprus, have involved water-related emergencies involving foreign nationals. In early August, a 34-year-old Israeli man from Jerusalem drowned while swimming with his family. Despite being spotted by a rescue helicopter, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The organization ZAKA reported it is coordinating with the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cypriot authorities to assist the family with repatriation. On August 15, lifesavers in the LEM 0 maritime area near the zoo rescued a 25-year-old Nepalese man and his wife. The man, identified as a weak swimmer, began to sink while attempting to swim from rocks to the shore and subsequently grabbed his wife in a state of panic. Lifesavers monitoring the area identified the man as a weak swimmer in a dangerous location and responded immediately with a rescue board. Local citizens and the Limassol Lifesaving Unit assisted in the rescue, and the man received first aid on shore but did not require further medical attention or ambulance transport.
