Weather disruptions and LIDOM league standings

Heavy rainfall in the Dominican Republic led to the postponement of several scheduled games in the Dominican Professional Baseball League (LIDOM). Affected matchups included games in Santo Domingo, San Francisco de Macorís, and San Pedro de Macorís, involving teams such as Tigres del Licey, Toros del Este, Leones del Escogido, Gigantes del Cibao, Águilas Cibaeñas, and Estrellas Orientales.

The weather delays specifically impacted the scheduled debut of former Cy Young winner Trevor Bauer, who was set to pitch for Estrellas Orientales. LIDOM rescheduled several matches, including Leones del Escogido vs. Gigantes del Cibao, Toros del Este vs. Tigres del Licey, and Águilas Cibaeñas vs. Estrellas Orientales.

As the season progresses, Tigres del Licey have maintained their lead at the top of the standings. Following a 7-4 victory over Toros del Este, which featured home runs from Estevan Florial and Kevin Alcántara, the team improved to a 7-3 record. They subsequently defeated Estrellas Orientales 6-3, led by five scoreless innings from Vladimir Gutiérrez and a play where Gustavo Núñez stole home, bringing their record to 8-4.

Other recent league activity includes Leones del Escogido securing a fourth consecutive win by defeating Águilas Cibaeñas 6-3, driven by José Marmolejos’s 4-for-4 performance. Toros del Este also broke a four-game losing streak with a 6-0 shutout against Gigantes del Cibao, limiting the opposition to just one hit.
