In late July 2026, the Chilean National Forestry Corporation (CONAF) extended the preventive closure of three protected areas in the Valparaíso Region—Parque Nacional La Campana, Reserva Nacional Lago Peñuelas, and Reserva Nacional El Yali—until July 31. These closures were implemented due to hazards caused by recent frontal weather systems, which resulted in flooded trails, downed trees, and unstable slopes. By August 10, disruptions continued in the Valparaíso and Metropolitan regions. In Valparaíso, a landslide near the Caleta Portales Yacht Club forced the closure of Avenida España heading toward Viña del Mar, prompting the Ministry of Transport to implement detours. Simultaneously, in the Metropolitan Region, Enel scheduled power outages across nine communes, including Santiago, Vitacura, and Las Condes, to facilitate maintenance work. Additional social and infrastructure issues emerged in Chile on August 10. In Caldera, artisanal fishermen blocked Route 5 North to protest a long-delayed government benefit intended to mitigate fishing shortages.
