In early August 2026 Burkina Faso marked the 65th anniversary of its independence, with Transitional President Ibrahim Traoré invoking Thomas Sankara’s legacy and calling for a “war of liberation” and sovereign development. A few days later, leaders across the region commemorated the 66th anniversaries.
