In late July 2026, Brentford submitted an official bid for West Ham United's 21-year-old left-back El Hadji Malick Diouf. The Premier League club indicated it was negotiating with the Gtech Community Stadium side and aimed to conclude the deal within days, while noting Diouf's contract runs to 2030 and his market value was estimated at €28 million. Two days later, West Ham rejected Brentford's approach, declaring the Senegalese defender unsellable despite interest from other clubs. The club's refusal coincided with the release of its financial results, which showed a record €179 million in transfer income after relegation, driven by the €99 million sale of midfielder Mateus Fernandes to Tottenham Hotspur and an €80 million move of winger Crysencio Summerville to Saudi club Al Hilal. By mid-August, Brentford issued a denial regarding reports that they had submitted a new £40 million bid for Diouf. While some reports suggested a package of £35 million upfront plus add-ons was being prepared, Brentford stated they had “moved on from interest in the player weeks ago,” despite intensifying speculation that the defender was open to a move following West Ham's relegation.
