Overview

West Yorkshire Police have begun utilizing live facial recognition (LFR) technology for targeted law enforcement operations. The technology was first deployed in Huddersfield town centre over a three-day period, where it resulted in three arrests involving domestic stalking, a warrant, and shoplifting, as well as the identification of individuals subject to Sexual Harm Prevention Orders.

Following this deployment, police announced plans to use LFR on the external perimeter of the Leeds Festival at Bramham Park. Officials stated the technology is intended to be used in a “targeted and proportionate manner” to identify individuals on watchlists who may pose a risk to public safety during the event.
