WhatsApp provides several built-in tools for managing device storage and monitoring messaging activity. Users can optimize space via the ‘Manage Storage’ tool under ‘Storage and Data’ settings on both Android and iPhone. This feature allows for the identification and targeted deletion of large files, such as videos, photos, and voice notes, without the need to delete entire chat histories. The tool organizes files by size and can identify frequently forwarded content to enable efficient cleaning. On Android, users are advised to clear their phone’s gallery trash to fully reclaim space. To manage data for cloud backups, users must consider the limits of Google Drive (15 GB shared across Google services) and iCloud (5 GB free). Exceeding these limits can lead to backup failures. For message recovery, the most reliable method remains restoring a previous backup by uninstalling and reinstalling the application. Users can also monitor personal messaging statistics through the ‘Storage and Data’ section, which provides a breakdown of messages sent and received. Regarding privacy, the platform includes a feature that allows users to exit group chats more discreetly, where discreetly—sometimes referred to as ‘ghost mode’—where the exit notification is restricted solely to group administrators. While other members can still see who has left by reviewing the participant list, they will not receive an automatic system message. Expanding its data transparency tools, WhatsApp now enables users to request and download a detailed report of their account information. This feature, accessible information via the ‘Request account info’ option in the Account settings, provides data regarding profile details, linked devices, security settings, active sessions, the last connection IP address, and the operating system version. The option. This report, which can take up to three days to generate, is delivered as a ZIP file containing HTML includes profile details, linked devices, and JSON documents. Notably, the report security settings, but does not include the content of chats, messages, chats or multimedia files. This functionality is currently limited to the mobile application and is not supported on WhatsApp Web or desktop versions.
