White House state dinner for Xi Jinping

Overview

Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez attended a White House state dinner hosted by President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump in honor of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Peng Liyuan. The event included various technology leaders, such as the CEOs of OpenAI, Nvidia, Google, and Microsoft.

Following the event, Lauren Sánchez’s attire—a vintage black Alexander McQueen mermaid-style gown with an off-the-shoulder design and a plunging neckline—drew significant social media scrutiny. She accessorized the ensemble with large diamond drop earrings and a prominent necklace containing emerald-cut diamonds.

The outfit sparked debate across social media platforms, including X. While some observers praised the red-carpet glamour of the ensemble, arguing the gown was relatively conservative compared to her previous fashion appearances, others criticized the choice. Critics on social media labeled the dress ‘completely inappropriate’ for a formal state occasion, suggesting the style lacked the necessary dignity and decorum for the diplomatic event.
