Wickham Freight Lines solar-electric trailer deployment
Overview
Wickham Freight Lines has become the first Australian transport operator to deploy the Sunswap Endurance, a battery-electric and solar-charged refrigerated trailer unit developed by Protran Solutions.
The implementation follows field testing on a 1,671 km route between Sydney and Brisbane. During the 32-hour trial, the unit maintained between 65 and 67 percent battery capacity. Graham Keogh, Director at Wickham Freight Lines, stated that the technology’s performance, reliability, and operational savings exceeded expectations, confirming it as a commercially viable option for large fleets. The technology is intended to replace traditional diesel-powered refrigeration units to reduce carbon emissions and noise pollution.
