Despite this downward trend in wildfires, a major emergency occurred on August 31 at a waste storage site in the industrial area of Airola, Benevento. The fire involved approximately one million cubic meters of material, including tires, creating a dense black smoke cloud that spread across the Valle Caudina and toward Montesarchio. Local authorities advised residents to stay indoors or evacuate as a precaution, while Arpac began monitoring the air for pollutants such as dioxins and furans.
