Wildfires have occurred in the Algeciras region of Spain, driven by strong winds. An initial blaze near the A-7 highway affected vegetation in the Los Alamillos urbanisation and Avenida Agua Marina. Emergency services, including municipal firefighters, the Infoca rescue unit, and the Guardia Civil, were deployed to manage the incident, which was visible from Gibraltar. While residents suspected fireworks might be the cause, authorities did not confirm a source. A subsequent brush fire in the Sotorebolo area affected approximately five hectares of land. Strong Poniente winds caused the fire to spread rapidly toward residential homes, some located within ten meters of the flames. Emergency responders from the Cádiz Provincial Fire Consortium and Plan Infoca contained the fire without requiring evacuations. Algeciras Mayor José Ignacio Landaluce commended the coordination of the emergency services during the operation. The Sotorebolo fire has since been successfully extinguished. While no injuries or property damage were reported, local residents have raised concerns regarding the maintenance of nearby private plots, citing accumulated waste and dry vegetation as high-risk factors for future outbreaks.
