After a shoulder injury forced Willow Nightingale to vacate the TBS Championship in late June 2026, AEW announced her July return. Nightingale re-entered the women’s division by winning the Casino Gauntlet, earning a title shot against Women’s World Champion Thekla. At the AEW Redemption pay-per-view, Nightingale overcame Thekla to capture the AEW Women’s World Championship, while also disclosing a year-long battle with depression. Nightingale became AEW’s first female Grand Slam champion on the July 29 Dynamite episode and announced her next challenger, Mercedes Mone, for the All In event in London. On the August 22, 2026, episode of AEW Collision in Reading, Pennsylvania, Nightingale successfully defended her AEW Women’s World Championship against Maya World, securing the win with a backslide. Following the defense, Nightingale issued a warning to ~~her upcoming opponent, Mercedes~~ Moné, stating that Moné cannot “crazy her way into a victory.” Nightingale later reflected on her championship win, noting that the emotional weight of defeating Thekla did not fully register until a subsequent Dynamite episode in Detroit, where crowd reactions and a face-off with Moné solidified her status. She described AEW as a ‘punk rock’ alternative that allows performers to succeed by doing things their own way. Nightingale is scheduled to defend her title against Moné on August 30 at AEW All In at Wembley Stadium in London.
