Wine producers in Portugal and Brazil are engaging in seasonal harvest activities and industry development. In Portugal, producers such as Esporão and Quinta dos Murças are hosting immersive harvest programs, including cellar tours and traditional grape treading. In Brazil, the industry is focusing on technical evaluation and tourism research. The Associação Brasileira de Enologia (ABE) has initiated a large-scale collection of wine samples from 84 wineries across 10 states to ensure traceability for the 34th National Wine Evaluation. Concurrently, the Escola de Enoturismo has expanded a national research project to map the growth of enotourism, aiming to quantify visitor numbers and the economic impact on winery revenue. The 34th National Wine Evaluation for the 2026 harvest is set to enter its selection tasting phase on September 1. Organized by the ABE, the process involves 569 samples collected from 84 wineries across 10 states and the Federal District. To ensure impartiality, the evaluation follows international protocols established by the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV). The tasting is conducted blind, with samples identified only by codes to prevent brand, producer, or origin from influencing the 108 participating enologists. Technical rigor is maintained through strict environmental controls, such as precise serving temperatures and a silent atmosphere. Results are scheduled to be presented on October 17 in Bento Gonçalves.
