Republican Congressman Tom Tiffany secured the Republican nomination for Governor of Wisconsin. During his primary campaign, Tiffany focused on property taxes, utility costs, and housing affordability, receiving endorsements from Donald Trump, JD Vance, and former Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin. As the general election approaches, the race has transitioned into a high-spending advertising phase between Tiffany and Democratic candidate David Crowley, the Milwaukee County Executive. The Tiffany campaign has launched a seven-figure advertising effort characterizing Crowley as a “failed executive” regarding spending and tax issues. In response, Crowley has criticized Tiffany as a “MAGA extremist” and attributed Milwaukee’s fiscal challenges to former Governor Scott Walker. Additionally, the Democratic Governors Association has initiated a seven-figure ad campaign titled “Pander,” which labels Tiffany a “pandering politician” and cites his voting record on abortion access and Social Security. Tiffany has since expanded his platform to include farmland protection, pledging to prevent agricultural land from being converted into wind farms, solar fields, or data centers. During a “Common-Sense Leadership Tour,” he proposed eliminating taxpayer-funded subsidies for renewable energy projects and returning local control over such developments. Regarding data centers, Tiffany stated he would only permit their development if they do not increase electricity rates, do not utilize non-disclosure agreements, are not built on farmland, and receive no subsidies. Recently, the candidates have clashed over a projected $3 billion state budget surplus. Tiffany has pledged to return the entire surplus to taxpayers, arguing that current revenues prove residents are overtaxed. Crowley has proposed using the funds for property tax relief alongside investments in education and healthcare. Crowley has officially launched his campaign, centering his platform on a vision of a “Wisconsin that works for all.” His stated goals include creating high-paying jobs, raising the minimum wage, expanding apprenticeship programs, and repealing Act 10.
