The ‘Trophy of Macedonia’ women’s handball tournament in Ohrid concluded with Montenegro claiming first place. Montenegro finished the tournament with two victories and one draw, securing wins against North Macedonia and Serbia, and a draw in their opening match against Croatia. North Macedonia secured second place after defeating Croatia 25-22 in their final match. Despite a second-half comeback attempt by Croatia that saw the score tied at 19-19 and 22-22, North Macedonia scored three final goals to seal the victory. Croatia finished the tournament in third place, following a second-round 28-15 win over Serbia and an earlier 20-20 draw against Montenegro. Serbia finished in fourth place. Individual honors from the tournament included North Macedonia’s Sara Ristovska as the top scorer with 22 goals and Lucija Bešen as the best goalkeeper. Montenegro’s Ivana Savić was named the tournament MVP. The event served as a critical preparation tool for the upcoming European Championship, featuring national selections from Macedonia, Croatia, Serbia, and Montenegro. EHF Euro 2026, which begins on December 3 against Hungary. Montenegro’s head coach, Suzana Lazović, noted that while the result was positive, there are “specific areas of play that require serious work” ahead of the championship.
