Woodland Hills housing development disputes

Housing development proposals in Woodland Hills have faced significant opposition from local officials and residents due to safety and density concerns.

In one instance, the Los Angeles City Council voted 11-1 to block a project at the Woodland Hills Country Club. The council sought to amend zoning codes to prevent vacant lots, such as golf courses, from receiving certain redevelopment authorizations. Concerns cited included the site being in a “very high” fire hazard severity zone and serving as “wildlife habitat” for endangered mountain lions. The developer, Arrimus Capital, criticized the move as an “affront to Angelenos” and suggested potential legal action regarding state housing law violations.

Separately, a proposal for a 71-unit senior living facility on Del Moreno Drive led to a chaotic public hearing. Local residents opposed the high-density project, citing inadequate parking and fire zone risks. The dispute underscored broader tensions regarding California laws that allow affordable housing projects to bypass certain local restrictions on density and height.
