Reports indicate several fatal workplace accidents across multiple countries. In Mexico, a worker died after being buried under sand at a screening plant in San José del Valle. In Guatemala, a minor died following a 14-meter fall from a corn warehouse roof in Masagua, Escuintla, after stepping on a fiberglass sheet without safety equipment. In Argentina, a worker named Ramón Antonio González died instantly when a eucalyptus tree trunk split and struck him during removal operations in San Carlos. Meanwhile, in Aldea del Rey, Spain, a construction worker died after a fall from height. The Comisiones Obreras (CCOO) union noted that this follows three similar fatalities in the Ciudad Real province in recent weeks, prompting calls for stricter safety inspections and improved risk prevention. In Larouco, Ourense, a forestry worker identified as José E. A. died following an attack by a swarm of invasive Asian wasps (Vespa velutina) while performing clearing duties. Despite emergency interventions including a medicalized ambulance, a helicopter, and CPR attempts, the man passed away at the scene. The insects reportedly bypassed the worker’s protective gear, attacking his face, neck, and upper body. Local authorities noted that the attack occurred during a period of extraordinary wasp activity, potentially due to drought-related seasonal delays. This incident follows a pattern in Galicia, where three other deaths from the same species were recorded in a short period last year.
