In preparation for World Children’s Day on September 20, 2026, occupational therapy professionals in Germany are emphasizing the importance of pediatric support. The German Association of Occupational Therapy (DVE) has adopted the motto ‘Strong Children, Strong Future!’ to promote a resource-oriented approach to child development. Experts, including occupational therapist Heike Musa, highlight that early intervention is critical for addressing motor development delays, such as pencil grip issues, and challenges regarding attention and concentration. Professionals advise parents to monitor whether developmental difficulties observed by educators in schools or kindergartens are also present in domestic environments. Community initiatives are expanding across Germany to mark the day. In Bergkamen-Oberaden, the Yellowstone Youth Center is hosting a free event for children aged six and older, featuring workshops with a fire educator, an LED show, and opportunities for children to propose ideas for child-friendly urban design. Other regional celebrations include a foundation festival in Bernburg organized by the Stiftung Evangelische Jugendhilfe under the motto ‘Strong for children. Strong for humanity.’, which focuses on children’s rights through music, dance, and sports. Additionally, the Heidekreis region will host its 20th World Children’s Day festival at Jugendhof Idingen. This event, organized by the Kreisjugendpflege and the Kreisjugendring Heidekreis, includes creative activities like tie-dyeing and crafting, alongside a climbing wall and movement courses. While the day is an official public holiday in Thuringia, it remains a regular working day in other federal states. In Landau, a community play festival is scheduled at Danziger Platz involving local organizations and emergency services. According to UNICEF Deutschland, the day aims to encourage politicians to consider the interests of young people in decision-making processes and to provide better perspectives for disadvantaged children.
