Following the commencement of World Seniors Day on October 1, social initiatives were observed across Turkey and Cyprus. In Turkey, activities included awareness walks, community dinners, and cultural events, such as a concert for Darülaceze residents. In Cyprus, the Minister of Labor and Social Security announced plans to convert an idle facility in Sınırüstü into an ‘Active Aging Center’ to foster social and cultural engagement. Other regional efforts included the launch of a ‘Second Spring University’ in Efeler and health advisories in Kemer. Local municipalities in Bursa, Kahramanmaraş, Ankara, and Mersin further expanded these efforts through health screenings, musical performances, and home visits. In the aftermath of the celebrations, various Turkish municipalities continued to hold commemorative events. Muğla Metropolitan Municipality organized a walking event and cocktail for members of the Nilüfer Caner 100 Age House, which supports over 2,450 citizens aged 60 and older. In Seferihisar, local authorities conducted physical exercises and social gatherings at nursing homes in Sığacık and Ürkmez. Other local engagements included visits to nursing homes in Ünye and Niğde, where officials met with residents to highlight the importance of elderly experience. In Osmangazi, a Turkish Classical Music concert was hosted for BAREM facility residents. Additionally, the Denizli Metropolitan Municipality focused on advocacy by organizing a seminar titled ‘Elderly Rights and Law,’ led by the City Council Elderly Assembly, which addressed legal status, social security, and the protection of elderly citizens' rights. Further commemorations included a live folk music event at Kahramanmaraş Castle, organized by the Kahramanmaraş Metropolitan Municipality and the Provincial Directorate of Family and Social Services. In Trabzon, Metropolitan Mayor Ahmet Metin Genç visited the Çamlık Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center to meet with residents and reaffirm the municipality’s commitment to supporting the social lives of elderly citizens.
