Wrocław Airport is undergoing significant infrastructure developments to increase capacity and modernize operations. One major project involves a 464 million PLN expansion that effectively doubled the airport’s operational surface area. Completed ahead of its December 2026 deadline, this expansion included a new apron for 14 aircraft, a 2.5 km parallel taxiway, a rapid exit taxiway, and a de-icing apron. Airport President Karol Przywara stated the scale of the project was “comparable to building a medium-sized airport from scratch,” noting the infrastructure supports both civil and military aviation. As of October 1, 2026, all aircraft operating at the airport have full access to these new facilities. The reconstruction, which involved 35 hectares and over 5 km of taxiways, was completed in 40 days. The airport is now preparing for its winter flight schedule, which features new connections to destinations including Turin, Bilbao, Marrakesh, and Hurghada. Additionally, the airport is planning a security modernization phase scheduled to begin in February 2027. This 30 million PLN investment will introduce advanced CT scanners and an ATRS system, allowing passengers to keep electronics and larger liquid containers in carry-on luggage. This upgrade is expected to increase security zone capacity by at least 40 percent, raising hourly throughput from 1,400 to over 2,000 passengers.
