Elena Rybakina captured her 15th career professional title by winning the WTA 500 Ningbo Open. The world number one defeated Leylah Fernandez in the final with a score of 6-2, 6-2, securing 500 ranking points and a prize of $185,500. This victory followed Rybakina’s semifinal win over sixth seed Diana Shnaider (6-3, 7-5). Fernandez, who reached the final after defeating Marie Bouzkova 6-3, 7-5, entered the match with a strong run of form including a recent title in Singapore. The final marked the sixth encounter between the two players. In a 76-minute match, Rybakina demonstrated dominance by winning 73% of her first-serve points and converting four of her five break point opportunities. Fernandez, ranked world number 30, was unable to capitalize on any of her four break point chances. This win marks Rybakina’s second consecutive victory at the Ningbo event, extending her tournament winning streak to 8-0. It is her fourth trophy of the 2026 season, following titles at the Australian Open, the US Open, and Stuttgart. This victory is particularly significant as it represents Rybakina’s first trophy since ascending to the world number one ranking. The win also strengthens her position in the race for the year-end number one ranking ahead of the WTA Finals. Following a foot injury that caused her to miss the Wuhan Open, Rybakina is scheduled to compete at the Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo before preparing for the WTA Finals in Indian Wells.
