Xiaomi is conducting track testing at the Nürburgring with prototypes of its SU7 Ultra electric luxury sedan, aiming to challenge the lap record held by the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT Manthey. Initial testing focused on aerodynamic enhancements, including a redesigned front bumper with a large splitter, aero skirts, wheel louvers, a twin-plane rear wing, and carbon ceramic brakes. The current SU7 Ultra utilizes three electric motors producing 1,548 horsepower. Subsequent developments involve an ‘Extreme’ prototype featuring even more radical modifications. This version includes a massive dual-element rear wing with goose-neck style hinges, a wider rear diffuser with pronounced fins, and aggressive front splitter side plates. The prototype also utilizes larger hood vents and deeper air channels to manage airflow, with potential integration of a Drag Reduction System (DRS) to increase top speeds. Recent testing at the Nürburgring has focused on this ‘Extreme’ edition, which features enhanced aerodynamics such as a more prominent rear diffuser, a larger spoiler, and redesigned air intakes on the hood and fenders to increase downforce. This development follows a period of competition for electric vehicle lap records; while the SU7 Ultra previously set a record for production electric vehicles at the track, the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT later reclaimed the title. In a separate performance demonstration in the Czech Republic, driver Tomáš Vavřinec used the SU7 Ultra to set six national speed records at an airfield in Hradec Králové, reaching a top speed of 323.35 km/h.
