XRG has undertaken several strategic initiatives to expand its natural gas infrastructure and strengthen energy ties between the Caspian region and Europe. Initially, XRG entered a memorandum of understanding with ADNOC and SEFE to enhance cooperation across the natural gas and LNG value chain, aiming to bolster energy security for Germany and the broader European market. During this period, XRG also acquired an equity stake in the Southern Gas Corridor CJSC from the Republic of Azerbaijan to help integrate Caspian resources with European markets. Following these infrastructure and partnership developments, XRG announced a final investment decision for the next phase of the Absheron offshore gas and condensate field in the Caspian Sea. This project, in which XRG holds a 30 percent stake, aims to tap into resources of up to five trillion cubic feet, with production targeted to begin in 2029. This In September 2026, TotalEnergies, SOCAR, and XRG reached a Final Investment Decision (FID) for the full-field development of the Absheron field, representing an estimated total capital investment is intended to reinforce Azerbaijan’s role as of approximately $4.2 billion. The development plan includes drilling four subsea production wells, constructing a reliable energy partner 142-kilometer multiphase offshore pipeline, and complements XRG’s existing involvement building new processing infrastructure in the Southern Gas Corridor. Sangachal area. The project aims to increase field production to 6 billion cubic meters of gas per annum and 47,000 barrels of condensate per day. Scheduled to start up in 2029, the gas will be supplied to the domestic Azerbaijani market and exported to Turkey via existing infrastructure. To minimize greenhouse gas emissions, the project is designed with a low carbon footprint, utilizing a fully electrified onshore plant.
