Military confrontations in Yemen have resulted in significant casualties for both government and Houthi forces. In Marib, a formal funeral was held for Brigadier General Ahmed Mohammed Buhaybah and four other officers who were killed during the ‘Fajr al-Yaman’ operation against Houthi militias. Recent reports from late October 2026 indicate continued high casualty rates among Houthi members. On October 26 and 27, the Houthi group released funeral lists detailing the deaths of 47 members, including 23 individuals holding military ranks from assistant to brigadier general. These casualties were distributed across several governorates, including Sanaa, Amran, Hajjah, Al Hudaydah, Saada, Marib, Al Bayda, Ibb, Dhamar, and Al Mahwit. These deaths coincided with military confrontations in the West Coast and Taiz, as well as operations in Marib, Al Jawf, and Al Dhale. By October 31, Houthi-affiliated media announced the deaths of an additional 14 members, including three brigadier generals, a colonel, a lieutenant colonel, and a first lieutenant. These individuals originated from regions such as Sanaa, Hajjah, Raymah, Amran, Saada, and Dhamar. Local sources in Sanaa reported that some of these casualties resulted from airstrikes in the Taiz governorate, following military operations targeting Houthi positions and gatherings in areas such as Al-Abous and Hayjat al-Abd. On November 2, the Houthi group announced that ten officers were killed during clashes with Yemeni government forces. Funeral ceremonies were held in Sanaa for several officers, including Colonels Ibrahim Zaid Ali al-Nunu, Ali Hassan Ali al-Hajri, and Adel Abdullah Yahya al-Sufyani, as well as several captains and a lieutenant. In the Hajjah governorate, ceremonies were held for Colonel Mazen Khalid al-Barghashi and Lieutenant Colonel Abdullah al-Talhi. This surge in fighting follows a period of renewed military escalation that began in July 2026, disrupting the relative calm seen since April 2022. United Nations reports indicate this escalation has resulted in thousands of casualties and the displacement of more than 250,000 people.
