In late July 2026, Yemen’s National Center for Meteorology and Early Warning warned of thunderstorms, heavy rain, strong winds and flash‑flood risks across multiple governorates, urging residents to avoid flood‑prone areas and fishermen to brace for rough seas. By early August, local authorities in Aden began concrete mitigation actions, clearing debris and constructing earthen barriers along the Siel al‑Haswah watercourse to improve drainage ahead of an anticipated low‑pressure system. Simultaneously, the Minister of Social Affairs and Labor met with the World Food Programme’s country representative to deepen cooperation on food‑security monitoring and shift from emergency aid toward sustainable livelihood support for vulnerable communities. Throughout August, meteorological authorities issued continuous warnings for heavy thunderstorms, potential hail, and flash floods. Between August 15 and August 18, specific alerts targeted mountainous regions including Al Bayda and Hajjah, warning of rockfalls, mudslides, and fog. By late August, the General Authority for Civil Aviation and Meteorology predicted continued hot to extremely hot and humid conditions in coastal and desert areas. On September 4, new alerts were issued for thunderstorms, lightning, and potential flash floods over a 24-hour period. Heavy rainfall, potentially accompanied by hail and downbursts, was forecasted for mountainous regions including Hajjah, Al Mahwit, Raymah, Dhamar, Ad Dhali', Ibb, and Taiz. On September 6, the National Center of Meteorology and Early Warning advised residents to avoid valleys, wadis, and flood paths, and cautioned drivers against crossing bridges during active flooding. Meteorological expert Jamil Al-Haj predicted that rainfall intensity might increase, with a high probability of very heavy rain and flash floods in parts of Hadramaut, Shabwah, and southwestern Yemen. From September 8 to September 11, the Meteorological Forecasting and Early Warning Center issued a 96-hour warning for heavy thunderstorms.
