Dr. Ahd Jaasous, the Minister of State for Women's Affairs, has initiated several programs in Aden aimed at women's empowerment, heritage preservation, and legislative protection. Initial efforts focused on cultural and administrative integration. This included inspecting rare artifacts at the ‘House of Folk Heritage’ to explore linking heritage preservation with economic empowerment through handicrafts. Additionally, the Minister met with the Minister of Transport to discuss increasing women's leadership in the transport sector and coordinated with the General Secretariat of the Cabinet to align ministry priorities for 2026, including the proposed establishment of a Women's Development Fund and a national strategy for women. In collaboration with the ‘Abad’ Coalition, Oxfam, and the European Union, a dialogue session was held to address women's protection needs. The session focused on institutional and legislative reviews, political empowerment, and the conversion of recommendations into national policies. Minister Jaasous reiterated the goal of integrating these outcomes into a national action program and an integrated information system to address developmental needs. Recent developments in Aden have expanded these efforts to include high-level workshops on transitional justice and human rights. Organized by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, these sessions involve civil society, the Ministry of Legal Affairs, and judicial bodies to discuss frameworks for victim redress, accountability, and social reconciliation. Minister of Legal Affairs Judge Ishraq al-Maqtari described transitional justice as a ‘national necessity’ for peace based on the rule of law. Parallel initiatives supported by the European Union and Oxfam, led by the PASS Foundation and the ‘Abad’ advocacy bloc, continue to focus on gender-based violence. These efforts aim to strengthen institutional responses and translate recommendations into actionable national policies, such as the development of a national strategy for women and a dedicated development fund.
