Local fundraising efforts in Kelowna have supported various YMCA programs. The third annual Kelowna Hockey Fest raised $33,185 at MNP Place to benefit the YMCA of Southern Interior BC’s Child and Youth Development programs, providing resources such as sports, academic support, and mental health services. Separately, the second annual YMCA Make a Splash fundraiser held at the H2O Adventure + Fitness Centre raised $40,517.94. These funds are designated for the YMCA Okanagan Swims program, which provides free lifesaving swimming lessons to over 1,600 Grade 3 students in School District 23 annually. During the event’s duck race, participants adopted 320 regular rubber ducks and 28 mega ducks; each regular duck supports one child, while each mega duck supports four children. Additionally, the new ‘Quack & Splash Team Challenge’ saw eight teams raise more than $3,500.
