Youth brawl in Lecco, Italy

Overview

On August 9, 2026, a violent brawl involving approximately 15 young people occurred across several locations in central Lecco, Italy, including via Cavour, Piazza Diaz, and the station area. Witnesses reported the use of belts and the throwing of bottles during the unrest. Preliminary reports suggest the confrontation may have been triggered by a dispute regarding a dog that bit a 19-year-old male.

Following the incident, state police intervened and identified three foreign nationals: one individual subject to a ban on entering urban areas (DACUR), an international protection seeker, and an individual seeking a residence permit renewal. These three individuals were reported to judicial authorities for brawling and throwing dangerous objects. Authorities have also identified 16 other individuals and are reviewing surveillance footage to determine further involvement.
