The 2026 Balkan summer festival circuit and regional arts scene saw significant activity through July. In Serbia, the music landscape was marked by the rise of pop singer Jakov Jozinović, who released his debut album ‘Ja za čuda letim’ and performed sold-out shows at Arena Zagreb and the Sava Centre. Belgrade hosted major events including the 33rd BELEF, the Afro Festival, and high-profile concerts by Lenny Kravitz and the Južni vetar folk supergroup, the latter of which staged a historic two-night reunion at Tašmajdan. In Kragujevac, Arsenal Fest and the VIBE Festival showcased diverse lineups ranging from heavy metal to regional pop. The 14th STRINGS festival in Leskovac and the upcoming Summer3P in Subotica further expanded the electronic and classical offerings. Regional highlights included the 66th Ohrid Summer International Festival in North Macedonia, which opened with a sold-out gala featuring Ermonela Jaho and Charles Castronovo, and the 47th Skopje Summer Festival, which featured theatre, film, and the ‘Poetronica’ project. Bosnia and Herzegovina hosted the Konjic Summer Fest and the street-arts festival TrotoArt in Banja Luka. The season also saw notable achievements in youth arts, such as the Petar Krančević Music School’s numerous awards in Serbia and the gold medal win by the ‘Banjalučanke’ choir in Finland. In August, the Ohrid Summer Festival expanded its programming with the ‘Jazz Evenings’ series, running from August 13 to 16. This initiative features six concerts at the St. Sophia Church and the Dolni Saraj stage, showcasing international talent from the USA, Germany, the UK, and Ghana, alongside Macedonian artists like Krste Rozhevski and the Dine Dontef trio. The festival also hosted a ‘European Union Evening’ and a solo recital by Chinese pianist Siheng Song.
