Violent and property crimes continued to surge across Austria in 2026. Earlier months saw a Serbian‑linked home invasion in Langenzersdorf, the capture of a 51‑year‑old Serbian suspect in Bosnia, a sportswear theft and assault in Brunn am Gebirge, a Snapchat‑lured robbery in Altach, a stabbing robbery in Vienna’s Favoriten district, a bottle attack in Donaustadt, and a robbery of a nonagenarian couple in Margareten. Police investigations also uncovered cyber‑grooming trials and organized‑crime links. The latest incident on 21 July involved a 32‑year‑old Bulgarian migrant in Vienna’s Alois‑Drasche Park who harassed women, bit a victim’s cheek and pressed a smoldering cigarette to her face, then assaulted an officer during his arrest; cannabis was seized. A parallel assault in Brno, Czech Republic, involved a 50‑year‑old man forcing a 38‑year‑old woman into sexual contact. The fraud wave expanded on 16 July when a 41‑year‑old man posed as a locked‑out driver and swindled roughly €20 000 from more than 70 motorists; he was arrested on 20 July after a tip‑off. Czech police on 21 July detained a 48‑year‑old repeat offender in Prague for rape, burglary, jewellery theft and a knife‑threatened robbery of two teenage girls. On 29 July a conflict at Vienna’s Westbahnhof escalated when a 33‑year‑old woman drew a knife and attempted to stab a 30‑year‑old man. Police disarmed her, both parties were injured sustained injuries and were subsequently taken into custody. These events underline charged with serious bodily injury offenses; the persistent, diverse street‑level recovered knife was secured as evidence. Further arrests highlight ongoing knife‑related violence and fraud affecting Austria and in Vienna. On 18 July a 15‑year‑old Syrian was detained after a stabbing at Laubeplatz in the surrounding region Favoriten district left a 19‑year‑old victim seriously injured. On 30 July a 44‑year‑old man and his 15‑year‑old son were apprehended after a family dispute at Neulaa U‑Bahn station resulted in 2026. a stick‑ and knife‑attack on a 40‑year‑old victim.
