In August 2026, YouTube announced a global expansion of its Premium Lite subscription tier, aiming to bring the lower-cost option to approximately 57 to 63 additional markets where standard YouTube Premium is currently available. The Lite tier provides ad-free viewing for categories such as gaming, fashion, and news, but excludes advertisements from music content, Shorts, and searches, and does not include YouTube Music Premium. Alongside this expansion, YouTube detailed its revenue distribution model for creators. Under this system, creators receive 30% of revenue from standard Premium members and 60% of revenue from Premium Lite members, with payouts based on the quantity and duration of content consumed. Additionally, YouTube outlined upcoming changes to the YouTube Partner Program (YPP) scheduled for February 1, 2027, requiring creators to achieve either 8,000 watch hours over 365 days or 20 million Shorts views within a 90-day period. By late August 2026, YouTube began implementing widespread price increases for various subscription tiers, including Individual, Family, Student, and Lite plans, across multiple international markets. These adjustments, which generally range between 10% and 15%, follow patterns seen in the United States in April 2026. In Europe, monthly increases were noted in Italy, the Netherlands, Finland, the Czech Republic, Spain, and Portugal. In Spain, family plans are expected to rise from 25.99 to 29.99 EUR, while individual plans move from 13.99 to 15.99 EUR. In Singapore, individual plans rose to S$15.98 and family plans to S$31.98. In the UAE, individual plans increased to AED 29.99 and family plans to AED 57.99. In Romania, prices moved from 29.00 Leu to 32.00 Leu. YouTube stated these adjustments are intended to help the platform ‘continue improving Premium while supporting creators and artists on the platform.’
