Yucatán is advancing maritime and water management infrastructure through international cooperation and domestic investment. The government of Yucatán and the Netherlands have initiated discussions regarding bilateral cooperation in energy, maritime, and water sectors. This includes exploring opportunities for Dutch companies to assist with the expansion of the Port of Progreso and addressing water stress via technologies for rainwater harvesting and flood prevention. In Yucatán, the expansion and modernization of the Puerto de Progreso has progressed into a new phase. Following dredging works by SSA Marine, the Mexican government has issued a new tender for continued dredging, part of a 12.225 billion peso integral project designed to increase capacity for larger vessels. Additionally, a new water catchment system has been delivered in Mérida to provide potable water to over 20,000 residents. Furthering local water management, Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena met with Conagua to advance the ‘Plan Bienestar Metropolitano’ for Mérida. This initiative involves an investment of 1,813.5 million pesos dedicated to water and sanitation to support the metropolitan area.
