The state of Zacatecas has reported continues to report significant developments regarding its regional investment, demographic trends, and fiscal management. Government reports indicate a budget execution exceeding 603 million pesos aimed at infrastructure, road connectivity, and social support across several municipalities, including Río Grande. These investments cover road maintenance, water and sewage services, school upkeep, and the establishment of 16 medical clinics. Concurrently, data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) shows a 3.7% population increase over five years, bringing the total population to 1,686,419 inhabitants. On the fiscal front, Governor David Monreal Ávila announced improvements in the state’s financial standing through a ‘Zero Debt’ policy. The administration has allocated over 4.17 billion pesos toward long-term debt capital payments without taking on new loans. State revenues have increased by 113 percent compared to the previous administration, and federal participations for 2026 reached 11.82 billion pesos through September. These measures have resulted in credit rating upgrades from Fitch Ratings and HR Ratings, supporting a positive budget balance maintained for five years. Recent data from the second quarter of 2026 shows a 12.8% annual increase in exports, reaching an estimated $1.503 billion. The mining sector remains the primary driver, accounting for approximately 64% of total exports, while the agricultural sector experienced the largest percentage growth at 23.2%. To support this, the government is distributing tractor subsidies and plans to provide diesel subsidies in January 2027. Further regional development initiatives include a planned 5 billion peso hospital in Guadalupe with 387 beds, the construction of 144 homes under the ‘Viviendas para el Bienestar’ program, and investments in security infrastructure such as the C5i facility.
