In early August 2026, Swiss Federal Railways prepared for the annual Zurich Street Parade by adding 20 extra trains and additional night connections, offering special tickets to accommodate the expected influx of visitors. A few days later, the parade attracted around 800,000 attendees. Health officials highlighted a surge in drug use, noting that many MDMA pills sold at the event contained dangerously high doses. The Saferparty initiative provided free drug‑checking services to help revelers avoid unsafe substances. Following the event, the Zurich Cantonal Police reported 46 arrests, including 25 individuals detained for property crimes such as theft and pickpocketing. In some cases, suspects allegedly used pepper spray against victims and officers to steal valuables. Sixteen other men were detained during identity checks for drug offenses and immigration violations. Medical services also saw increased activity, with Schutz & Rettung Zürich conducting 906 treatments, up from 757 the previous year. The most common medical issues involved cuts, abrasions, and alcohol-related problems, alongside heat-related complaints. Of those treated, 128 individuals required monitoring in emergency shelters, and 45 were transported to hospitals.
